ReelSmart Twixtor

Overview

ReelSmart Twixtor intelligently slows down, speeds up or changes the frame rate of your image sequences.

DV Magazine calls ReelSmart Twixtor "amazing" and "a must-have for any toolkit" (read the review).

ReelSmart Twixtor enables you to speed up, slow down or frame rate convert your image sequences with visually stunning results. In order to achieve its unparalleled image quality, Twixtor synthesizes unique new frames by warping and interpolating frames of the original sequence... employing RE:Vision's proprietary tracking technology that calculates motion for each individual pixel.

Note that Twixtor is the only product of its kind available on the Macintosh!

Twixtor is the solution for many tough problems:

  1. Your clip only is 5 seconds but your edit list demands 6 seconds. Let Twixtor create the extra frames you need!
  2. You need to transfer video to film. Simply set up Twixtor with the input and output frame rates and the conversion happens automatically.
  3. You need to output some animation in multiple formats (PAL, NTSC and film, and 15 FPS). Create everything once at 24P and run Twixtor at the various output rates.
  4. You need to deliver a 3D animation render in 2 days. You calculate that the rendering alone could take 2 days and you are not going to make it. Render on two's and let the Twixtor save your life by creating the inbetween frames in a fraction of the time.
  5. You need to overlay some 29.97 FPS material over some telecine material that has a 3:2 pulldown in it and the resulting composite looks weird. So you remove the pulldown from the telecine material leaving you with 24 FPS material. Finally, you use Twixtor to generate 29.97 different frames (with 59.94 different fields!) that is then composited over the 29.97 source material for a much better result.
  6. Your director wants cartoonish or robotic motions using a live-action source. Twixtor allows you to keyframe the retiming so you have complete control of the mapping of frames from the input sequence to the output sequence. Twixtor's remapping is animatable which enables you to speedup and slowdown over a sequence with precise control.

Twixtor Features: ( designates a new feature in version 2.0).

Calculation of motion vectors at each pixel
Warping and interpolation of frames to "time warp" input footage

Smart processing of fields in the input and output as appropriate

Stretching of a sequence using a single scaling parameter

Keyframable retiming for complete control on a frame by frame basis
Frame rate conversions made easy (Important Note: frame rate conversions are supported only from within the After Effects program)

Motion vectors can now be cached for improved performance
Sources of motion and color can come from the same or different clips
Control over the limits of how far pixels are allowed to move
New blending option that reduces potential in-and-out of focus pulsing during a slow-mo operation

Twixtor Pro adds the following features:

16 bits per channel processing for applications with 16 bit support.
Support for foreground and background separation using a specified mask. Twixtor then uses proprietary filling and tracking techniques when working on the background layer, even when it is obscured by the foreground!
